Stirling Council's Open Space Strategy 2011 set out a framework for the protection, enhancement, and sustainable management of open spaces across the council area. The strategy aimed to ensure that residents and visitors had access to high-quality green spaces, recognising their importance for recreation, biodiversity, and community well-being. It identified key challenges, such as maintaining and improving existing spaces, ensuring new developments incorporated adequate open space, and addressing issues of accessibility and connectivity.
The strategy also emphasised the role of open spaces in supporting environmental sustainability, including flood management and climate adaptation. Through a combination of policy recommendations and action plans, the 2011 Open Space Strategy sought to guide future investment and planning decisions to create a well-connected and diverse network of open spaces that met the needs of Stirling’s growing population.
