Stage of Treatment Waiting Times

This dataset reports key statistics on New Outpatient, Inpatient and Day case Waiting Times, at NHS boards across Scotland. Starting from the October 2025 release, this set of statistics now contains two additional data files to be refreshed on a monthly basis, containing performance and distribution of waits data for the most recent 25 months.\r\n\r\nFollowing implementation of the Scottish Government\u2019s revised Waiting Times Guidance , published in December 2023, these statistics have been aligned to the revised waiting time clock adjustment rules since 30 July 2025. An initial impact assessment, including technical details of implementation, was published with the first release of statistics using the new guidance in October 2025. Alongside this current release, an extended impact assessment has been published, with more detailed analysis on the impact of implementation on key trends over the full year to March 2026.\r\n\r\nFor more information on stage of treatment waiting times see the NHS waiting times - stage of treatment publications. The date of the next release can be found on our list of forthcoming publications.\r\n\r\nDue to the live nature of local Patient Management Systems and the national data mart, historical trend data are routinely refreshed from one publication to the next, leading to slight revisions in statistics, particularly those for the previous month end. The reasoning behind these retrospective changes and details of ongoing investigations are described in the dedicated Data Quality webpage.\r\n\r\nAcross NHSScotland, the net effect of all revisions for new outpatients was a decrease of 0.3% (-1,684) in the number of ongoing waits and an increase of 0.2% (+225) in the number of attendances compared to previously published figures for the month ending 28 February 2026. Drawing the same comparison for inpatient and day case treatment, the net effect was an increase of 0.6% (+897) ongoing waits and 1.4% (+316) admissions.\r\n\r\nFor more information, please see the Data Quality section of the website.\r\n
