Scotland’s lead national agency for improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of all of Scotland’s people.Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance in 2023 - Annual Report Edit
Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland collects, monitors, analyses, and interprets information on antibiotic use (AMU) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in human and animal health, to reduce the threat of and risk from infections caused by micro-organisms that are resistant to antimicrobials. Antimicrobial resistance occurs when micro-organisms, such as bacteria, adapt the ability to survive exposure to a treatment that would normally kill them. \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance (SONAAR) programme contributes to ARHAI Scotland\u2019s mission to improve the health and wellbeing of the population by reducing the burden of infection and antimicrobial resistance. This is delivered through development of epidemiological evidence including trends in antibiotic resistance in humans to inform local and national interventions and initiatives. Data are provided relating to resistance to antibiotics in humans in Scotland annually between 2019 and 2023.
